Improving Basic Programs

Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), which was revised by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), aims to support students in achieving high academic standards. It ensures that all children can access high-quality education, with a strong focus on closing achievement gaps outlined in a comprehensive needs assessment with continuous improvement in mind. Title I, Part A provides resources to Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) to address the needs of low-performing students, particularly those at risk of not meeting challenging state academic assessment standards. Importantly, under Title I, Part A, schools have the flexibility to implement a schoolwide or targeted assistance program, empowering them to make decisions that best suit their students' needs.

Private NonProfit (PNP):

Title I, Part A: Private School Services Through ESSA, federal grant funding is made available every year to serve students who meet certain criteria, such as students from low-income families. Those grant funds are awarded to the state education agency (TEA). TEA then allocates funds directly to the LEAs. “Private school services” refers to the process of providing students, teachers, staff, and families at eligible private schools, access to federally funded education programs and services, as appropriate. The process depends on a “timely and meaningful consultation” between LEAs and private school officials.
