Grade 7 Math STAAR Review Activities

A graphic with colorful pencils and text that reads 'NOW in SPANISH STAAR REVIEW ACTIVITIES REVIEW IMPORTANT MATHEMATICS CONCEPTS IN ENGAGING WAYS GRADES 3-Algebra 1'.

How might we purposefully and effectively review important mathematics concepts for the Grade 7 Math STAAR assessment? The ESC-18 Math Team has created a variety of activities where students practice and apply important grade-level TEKS aligned topics to cement their learning.

7.3A, 7.3B
Operations with Rational Numbers
Task Cards

Two math task cards with word problems involving rational numbers. Card #7 asks about the cost of grapes before taxes. Card #4 asks about the amount of fabric needed for a dress.

Solve problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of rational numbers.

7.4D
Ratio, Rate, & Percent Multi-Step Problems
Scavenger Hunt

Two math word problems on cards with a yellow and gray chevron pattern. The problems involve calculating the percentage of tax paid on jeans and the percentage reduction in the price of a dress.

Solve problems involving ratios, rates, and percents including multi-step problems involving percent increase and percent decrease, and financial literacy problems.

7.6G
Bar Graph, Dot Plot, & Circle Graphs
Task Cards

Two math task cards with a blue polka dot background. The first card shows a pie chart representing favorite lunches, and the second card shows a bar graph representing magazine sales.

Solve problems using data represented in bar graphs, dot plots, and circle graphs, including part-to-whole and part-to-part comparisons and equivalents.

7.9A
Volume of Prisms & Pyramids

Sum It Up

A math worksheet with diagrams of prisms and pyramids, labeled with dimensions and a group sum of 598.4 cubic inches.

Solve problems involving the volume of rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, rectangular pyramids, and triangular pyramids.

7.4A
Constant Rate of Change
Puzzles

Four puzzle pieces with math problems related to constant rate of change. The pieces include a table, a graph, an equation, and a word problem.

Represent constant rates of change in mathematical and real-world problems given pictorial, tabular, verbal, numeric, graphical, and algebraic representations.

7.5C
Similar Figures & Scale Drawings
Scavenger Hunt

Two math problems on cards with a green chevron pattern. The first problem involves finding the value of x in a similar triangle. The second problem involves finding the perimeter of a larger rectangle given the perimeter of a smaller rectangle and a scale factor.

Use similar shape and scale drawings to solve mathematical and real-world problems.

7.6I
Theoretical & Experimental Probability
Scavenger Hunt

Two math problems on yellow cards with a patterned border. The first problem asks about the probability of choosing a mystery book from a shelf. The second problem asks about the probability of choosing a circle from an array of shapes.

Determine experimental and theoretical probabilities related to simple and compound events using data and sample spaces.

7.9B
Circumference & Area of Circles
Dominoes

A set of math dominoes for learning about the circumference and area of circles.

Determine the circumference and area of circles.

7.10B, 7.11A, 7.11B

Solving Two-Step Inequalities
Task Cards

Two task cards for solving two-step inequalities, one with an inequality to solve and the other with a number line to graph the solution set.

Determine the area of composite figures containing combinations of rectangles, squares, parallelograms, trapezoids, triangles, semicircles, and quarter circles.

7.12A
Comparing Box Plots & Dot Plots
True/False Sort

A set of cards for a math activity comparing box plots and dot plots, with the title 'Comparing Box Plots & Dot Plots True/False Card Sort'.

Compare two groups of numeric data using comparative dot plots or box plots by comparing their shapes, centers, and spreads.
