  • TEC  §33 The primary responsibility of a school counselor is to counsel students to fully develop each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities. To fulfill this responsibility, Region 18 provides a comprehensive range of counseling services, including, but not limited to:

    • Child Abuse Reporting

  • TEC  §38.351  Mental Health Promotion and Intervention, Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention, and Suicide Prevention.

    The list provided under subsection (a) must include programs and practices in the following areas:

    • early mental health prevention and intervention;
    • building skills related to managing emotions, establishing and maintaining positive relationships, and responsible decision-making;
    • substance abuse prevention and intervention;
    • suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention;
    • grief-informed and trauma-informed practices;
    • positive school climates;
    • positive behavior interventions and supports;
    • positive youth development; and
    • safe, supportive, and positive school climate.

    In accordance with House Bill 19, our counseling program actively supports the mental health and well-being of all students by collaborating with our Local Mental Health Agency, PermiaCare. 

    We are thrilled to have McCarley Hunt as our Educational Resource Clinician.  McCarley offers schools access to mental health resources, training, and community partnerships to increase awareness and support for students and staff.
